The Government Inspector
at John Jay High School
Westchester, NY
Nickolai Gogol's 19th century play, The Government Inspector, was presented by the John Jay High School Theatre Workshop from November 19–21.  This production, a zany comedy of errors, featured politicians currying favors, desperate housewives, medical professionals more concerned with their bankbooks than their patients, and frantic school officials trying to keep teachers from running amok in the forest behind the school.
Seniors Josh Buckwald, Molly Sinsheimer, Josie Felt, Annie Shiel, Matt Surdej, and Celine Allende led the talented and very funny cast of 25 whose shenanigans poked fun at the absurd in life.  Although Gogol's play is nearly 200 years old and set in Czarist Russia, the story of mistaken identity, human greed, and deception, appeared surprisingly fresh in light of current headlines and events.  The play was directed by Bill Friedman.  Marguerite Hefferon served as Assistant Director. – KaLeidoscope
